Bug List

1) Over/Under heating food in the microwave.
Why does this happen? There are no easily accessible guidelines that explain        how long certain foods should be reheated.

2) Stepping outside and my Costa Del Mar sunglasses immediately fogging to the point that I cannot see anything.
Why does this happen? My sunglasses don't have any material in them to prevent fogging.

3) Getting a stain on an article of clothing.
Why does this happen? My clothes are not stain resistant so they absorb most of the liquid that they come into contact with.

4) Going to Southwest Recreation Center at inconvenient times to avoid waiting on gym equipment.
Why does this happen? Because many people are still committed to their, what I call, Fall semester resolution. The crowd will probably fizzle out in the coming weeks when people start to abandon their resolutions.

5) Many television commercials are not interesting and do not pertain to the viewer.
Why does this happen? Unlike internet ads which can taylor what is shown based on the users search history, the television ads have very limited means of finding what the consumer is interested in so its almost as if they are blindly throwing darts at the wall and hoping one hits the bullseye.

6) The power in my house going out during storms.
Why does this happen? Lightning strikes and disables the transformers that transfer power to my house.

7) Going to a public bathroom and having to stand feet away from the urinal because people missed the bowl.
Why does this happen? Some people just miss, some urinals have a small bowl, and many public bathrooms lack drains or mat's.

8) Being either too cold or too hot in my house
Why does this happen? My roommates are very indecisive when trying to determine the air temperature.

9) Not being able to think of a word even though it is on the tip of the tongue.
Why does this happen? Many reasons, some of which are: poor memory, stress, or fatigue.

10) Hurting my knee by hitting it against my desk as I attempt to squeeze between that and a wall
Why does this happen? My desk is composed of a hard material and I have very limited room to squeeze through the two.

11) The noisiness of my roommates while I'm trying to create a list of 20 things that bug me.
Why does this happen? Because my bedroom walls are too thin and/or not insulated well enough.

12) The massive lines for the bars in midtown at 8:00 PM on a Monday night.
Why does this happen? Because some bars in Gainesville are too expensive, others have closed down, and fire hazards limit the amount of occupants in a given building.

13) Getting into an Uber that smells like cigarette smoke.
Why does this happen? Some Uber drivers smoke and cannot get all of the smell out of the car.

14) The far right lane on SW 34th ST near the intersection with SW 2nd AVE is turn only even though the lane continues.
Why does this exist? The city counsel was trying to be as safe as possible when designing the city layout.

15) Forgetting that there is laundry in the dryer so it's left for a while and gets wrinkly.
Why does this happen? I can get side tracked and forget that my laundry is almost done.

16) The amount of pedestrians walking in the streets between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM on SW 8th Ave
Why does this happen? That is the time most of the sororities serve dinner so a lot of girls have to park at Norman and walk to their respective sorority house.

17) People who don't park inside the lines.
Why does this happen? I believe it to be a mixture of small parking spots, big cars/trucks, and bad drivers.

18) Not being able to find a T-shirt in the right size.
Why does this happen? Stores underestimate the demand for a particular shirt and size.

19) Unsubscribing from the Groupon email list but still receiving emails from them.
Why does this happen? Perhaps a bug in their system or they lied about being able to unsubscribe from their email list.

20) Ordering a shirt from an online retailer and, after washing the shirt once, it becomes too small to wear.
Why does this happen? The material used to make the shirt shrinks in the washing machine.

Reflection:
At first, I found this assignment to be rather difficult because I am not used to pointing out things that bug me. Also, the additional task of finding their root causes made the Bug list more challenging. However, after listing my first 6 or 7 bugs, the task became much easier for me. I started to easily notice situations that bug me, such as my sunglasses almost always fogging when I step outside and the large crowds of people that slow the flow of traffic on 8th Ave. I found this assignment interesting because I have never thought of what causes the things that bug me. While completing this assignment, I discovered that many of the things or situations that do bug me have an easy solution.

  1. After viewing your bug list, I became more aware of things that bother me. I forgot to mention in my post that I really hate it when I leave my laundry in the dryer and my clothes become wrinkly. I also find that we had an opposite experience with this assignment, after the 6th to 8th bug it became extremely difficult for me to find things that bug me. Great job on your post!

  2. Cody,

When I was working on my bug list, it was easy to find the first 10-12 bugs that bother me a lot in my daily life, but I just feel hard to find the rest. After read your post, I find that some bugs on your list also bother me. For example, I also hate someone who doesn't park inside the lines. It's really hard to find one single parking on some busy streets, I'm just feel so angry when I find a park but someone beside you park his/her car on the line that you cannot get in. I hope to see more post from you. Good job!
